STORIES ARE POWERFUL!

Stories are often thought of as entertainment. Sometimes they are read for pleasure, and at other times to pass time. Rarely, they are thought of as powerful narratives changing lives! Though, I am sure that if you would give a little thought to it, you would agree that they do modify our perceptions and remove certain biases moving along. They do their work quietly inside us. They make no haste like humans to make a visible and moreover, instant change in outlook or thought process. They sit inside us, unmoving. They multiply themselves and quietly apply in times when situation warrants them to. Our reaction that is suddenly softened today towards somebody is because of 'that story' about people of this profession or place or circumstances.

A Quote from Gazala

I had written a story for 'someday' to come into being. Then, I modified that story many-a-times according to my convenience. I heard stories of ordinary women doing extra-ordinary jobs. I wondered what it took to do that? 'Sacrifices' used to be my first guess! Sacrifice is a bitter word. It makes you hate people for whom you sacrifice. Hence, I kept away from it. 'Compromise' is another such word! How much a person feels belittled instead of exuberant when he/she is made to do something by circumstances/ set of people? I hated this too. Hence, my 'story' remained unspoken and unheard!

That day while watching the birds walking in a row following each others footsteps, I observed the one with a 'bad hair day' kind jumped aside and took three dips into the road pothole to bathe, clean and pick an insect or two as a meal. The rest kept walking. This rebel joined the gang a little later by just taking a flight instead of one-step-at-a-time. This made me smile, and realise that it is not about others, self, circumstances, expectations or fitting in or not - it is about the choice! The choice of being or doing something. The fitting in the gang can be done as much with doing your own thing and taking a flight to join as much with just quietly following the safe, usual, expected path!

This is my attempt to share that my 'someday' story came true by 'choice', and that if this motivates even one reader of mine to fulfil his/her 'someday' story, my purpose is met!

Gazala is my first book - the unheard tale of a mother and daughter! The book would take you to destinations that you hadn't thought or dreamt of yet! Take that flight, and do let me know through your reviews on amazon, how was the ride?
