We EAT - PLANT not MONEY !

INSPIRE OR EXPIRE!

Inside or Outside: they just beautify everything around

Plants are like children. You have to take immense care and show immense patience for them to bloom. They make your cup of morning tea so worthwhile by providing the beautiful ambiance but they aren’t grown in a day. In fact nothing does!

Avocado(lemon yellow bottle): experimental into experiential

I had been the garden lover always, and needless to say that have nurtured gardens in every station I have lived in. This time I got to stay in a first floor house, and garden became a challenge with the scarcity of water, nurseries around, and lack of knowledge of pouring the right amount of water, and making the right kind of potting mix for my pots (even they weren’t available to me because of distance that I had to travel to fetch them!) So, here was the big challenge. Staying without my plants around was just out of question. Hence, I started reading books on basic know-how of doing all this. After doing that successfully with my ten pots, I moved on to an ambitious project. I thought of planting a fruit tree in the park near me. Thought gave me the will, and I experimented in my pot few months ago with an avocado seed. The moment my kids saw this fruit for the first time, as it isn’t common in other stations, they desired to taste it. I bought it for them, and then instead of throwing the fruit seed, I planted it in a plastic bottle as an experiment. It took more than two months to brighten up my face with accomplishment smile, but the good part is … it did come up! Presently, a small plant is coming up, and I have given my kids responsibility to nurture it for some more time, until it can be planted in the earth downstairs in the park area.

From Bottles to Bathroom Tub: All Participate in my mission!

When somebody asked me about the source of inspiration for doing this, I seriously pondered over it because until then I never gave attention to this thought at all. In fact, then my mind, as it often does, started meandering amongst the varied things I did in my life until now, and tried to search for the reasons or inspirations behind their doing. It brought me to interesting finding about myself. I never actually got inspired till date by anything I guess. I just did everything because it was the need of the hour. Then, would those things had been done differently if I was inspired to do them by somebody or something? Well, I think …. Not really. We are just confusing ourselves. Things have been always done in the world because of the need of the hour… because of necessity… compulsiveness…. And it’s good to do it that way. Anything that inspires you to do might not last for long for you to accomplish the task with the same zeal. What I mean is the inspiration itself could expire you see! By reading books and knowing about so much environmental research, humans couldn’t be inspired to save green cover, and water. The same thing became possible the moment this was realized as a compulsive necessity due to our urgent need in the face of failure of our own existence in near future.  Hence, the movements are rising in a huge way. Every small thing around me made me to realize this crude reality. Amidst all this loud thinking, my son came to ask me how he should write his school essay on “Save Trees”.

Save Water! Save Trees! Save Environment! And the one which no human could have thought of few years back is Save Tigers! Something we must be doing grossly wrong as a generation to reach a level where we need to make movements to save everything on this planet. It seems that everything is asking us for a chance to live. Earth and nature which provided us with all the tools to live acted like our mother, and we acted as its mindless consumers. The irresponsible reproduction over the years has made all the resources scarce. I just read somewhere that by 2060, there will be 9.6 billion people on this planet. That simply means every human being will get just the 40 percent of the resources to live on compared to today. This is indeed a scary prediction. I never liked and believed in horoscope predictions at the time of marriage too. That is because I believe human beings’ aspirations can change the cold facts with the desired will to do so. Of course, I am confident we can make this 2060 prediction fall flat too provided every human aspires to do so with full commitment.  It shall be made a part of our education system too. Our young minds need to be infused with the idea of treating nature as life and not as commodity. They need to be told that planting trees is for their own survival, and not just for a science project.

In a light discussion over a cup of tea, somebody mentioned that “hopeless is the hope of building up all again that is lost in nature”. Well, chiaroscuro can be achieved with such comments to look elite and educated, but one can’t be really serious about the intentions of saying so. Before beginning to even contribute or rather mend your own mistakes, you can’t be jumping to conclusions. It seems a huge project but it is obviously not impossible. Why our actions are based on hope, and not clarity of vision? Why we are just hoping for something to happen or not? Can’t we really calculate what needs to be exactly done and with a vision implement the idea? It is a scientific finding that up to 33 degrees of either side of equator, the impact of planting trees to make necessary changes in environment is most effective, and our country falls into that criterion. It is good news of course.  All actions might not bear the desired fruits as it happens sometimes but that obviously doesn’t mean that an individual stop doing what he/she can. It just shouldn’t be our concern that we can change the world or not, though it is definitely our concern that whether we are doing what is the need of hour or not. Success of an effort is subject to many factors, all of which won’t be under our control but dedicated action towards them is certainly under our own control only.

I think it is time to change the mentality of  “nothing can’t be changed” into “everything grows if given a chance”. Let us consciously make a shift in our thoughts and actions before nature does it cruelly to us in future. Let us start gifting the saplings on occasions than the fancy gifts. Let us not raise the competition of our parties by raising pomp and show to another level, but by donating the saplings of fruit trees to farmers. Let us make our children plant and learn to nurture that plant throughout life as part of their existence.
penned down my remaining thoughts in poem below:

Nothing grows out of filth
Those who believes this are unaware
That the food, plants, and even their body
Is accumulated and grown out of this, but with care!
Care is no fancy emotion
but  practically a state of commotion
to do what is desired
Which with compulsiveness is hired.
Even if you aren’t made to love and care
If you feel being strong means not to share
the bounty around you with other species.
You are mistaken my dear friend to hear
You will be accompanied by dry leaves
When in heaven you would enter.
Believing its time finally you achieved
Some beady eyes and dry freeze would remind
you that all limits you breached and exceeded.
Now there is no heaven left surely it seems
But you didn’t do things in need and waited to be inspired
The life although had no clue, and suddenly expired!

Let's not wait for the time when the last tree will die, the last river will be poisoned, and last fish will be caught to realize something as simple as this!!
